Dundee has its own tribunal hearing centre at Endeavour House on Greenmarket — and of the Scottish cities on this site, Dundee is the only one where the median job pays less than the statutory weekly cap.

Dundee median weekly pay against the statutory cap Two horizontal bars. The upper bar is median full-time gross weekly pay for jobs located in Dundee, £709.50. The lower bar is the same measure for Dundee residents, £676.30. A dashed line marks the statutory weekly cap of £751. Statutory redundancy pay is worked out on a week's pay capped at £751. That is why the statutory figure is a floor rather than a valuation, and why the gap is different in every city.

A hearing centre on Greenmarket

Dundee has an employment venue of its own: the Dundee Tribunal Hearing Centre on the ground floor of Endeavour House, 1 Greenmarket. HMCTS lists it for employment and social security, open 9am to 5pm.

The listing is practical. Everyone is searched on entry and there is a security arch. Parking is two minutes from the building. Hearing loops are portable, so ask for one in advance; first aid, a waiting room and a disabled toilet are listed.

Because the region is named Scotland, the caseload behind a Dundee claim needs no assumption: HMCTS reports a Scotland region. What differs in Scotland is the court system underneath the tribunal, not the employment rights. The detail.

A settlement reached before any hearing never brings you to Greenmarket at all. The venue matters as the fallback that gives the negotiation its weight: an employer is pricing what a contested Dundee claim would cost in time as well as money.

The Scottish city below the cap

The median full-time job located in Dundee pays £710 a week, below the statutory weekly cap of £751. Of the Scottish cities on this site it is the only one where that is so: Glasgow (£796), Edinburgh (£833) and Aberdeen (£834) all sit above it.

So the statutory redundancy formula uses a typical Dundee week in full, where in the other three it trims it first. The argument that the statute has short-changed you is available to a typical earner in Edinburgh or Aberdeen and not in Dundee; here the case for more rests on the claim.

Dundee jobs pay more than Dundee residents earn (£676), so some of the better-paid Dundee jobs are held by people who live outside the city.

Below the cap, the number to check first is the weekly pay the employer has used. Statutory redundancy is worked out on gross weekly pay, and where your contract obliges the employer to provide overtime and you to work it, that overtime counts too (sections 221 to 224 of the Employment Rights Act 1996). An offer letter that quotes basic pay alone can understate the statutory figure even for a typical Dundee earner. A settlement offer should match or exceed what the statute would give before anything else is discussed.

Scottish Income Tax on a Dundee settlement

If you live in Scotland, Scottish Income Tax applies to the taxable part of a settlement — the slice above the £30,000 threshold and any notice pay — and for 2026/27 the bands include an intermediate rate of 21% and a higher rate of 42% from £43,663. How that works.

On Dundee pay the threshold goes further than in the other Scottish cities: it covers close to ten months of the local median, against about eight and a half in Aberdeen or Edinburgh. A settlement that stays wholly under it is a realistic prospect on Dundee wages, which keeps Scottish rates out of the question for the compensation part.

For a 45-year-old with ten complete years, statutory redundancy on the Dundee median is £8,514; for unfair dismissal, fifty-two weeks’ pay is about £36,894, the practical ceiling until 1 January 2027. How the limits work.

Common questions about Dundee

Where is the employment tribunal in Dundee?

HMCTS lists the Dundee Tribunal Hearing Centre at Ground Floor, Endeavour House, 1 Greenmarket, Dundee DD1 4QB, open 9am to 5pm. It hears employment and social security cases.

Is there parking at the Dundee tribunal?

HMCTS says parking is located two minutes from the building.

Is Dundee pay above the statutory redundancy cap?

No. The median full-time job located in Dundee is below it (ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2025), so the statutory formula uses a typical local week in full.

Do I need a Dundee solicitor for a settlement agreement?

You need a relevant independent adviser. In Scotland a qualified lawyer means an advocate or a solicitor holding a practising certificate — section 203(4) of the Employment Rights Act 1996. They need not be in Dundee.

Is my settlement taxed at Scottish rates?

The first £30,000 of compensation for losing the job is not taxed anywhere in the UK. Above that, and on notice pay, Scottish Income Tax applies if you live in Scotland.

Send an enquiry

Six quick questions. Your details are the last step, never the first.

Step 1 of 6
Where are you up to?

A solicitor needs to know whether there is a document to read yet.

What do you want out of this?

There is no wrong answer. It decides whether a firm books you a sign-off slot or opens a negotiation, and those are different pieces of work.

When have you been asked to sign by?

The Acas Code of Practice recommends at least 10 days. If you have been given less, that is worth a solicitor knowing before anything else.

How long have you worked there?

Length of service decides your statutory notice, whether statutory redundancy pay applies, and whether ordinary unfair dismissal is available to you at all.

Is your employer paying towards the legal advice?

Employers usually contribute, because the agreement is not valid without independent advice. They are not obliged to. Knowing the figure up front stops you being put in front of a firm whose fee does not fit it.

Where should the firm reach you?

This is the only step that asks for personal details.
