Maidstone’s employment claims go to a tribunal hearing centre in an Ashford shopping centre, seventeen miles away — and Maidstone residents out-earn Maidstone jobs by one of the widest margins on this site.

Maidstone median weekly pay against the statutory cap Two horizontal bars. The upper bar is median full-time gross weekly pay for jobs located in Maidstone, £704.20. The lower bar is the same measure for Maidstone residents, £774.10. A dashed line marks the statutory weekly cap of £751. Statutory redundancy pay is worked out on a week's pay capped at £751. That is why the statutory figure is a floor rather than a valuation, and why the gap is different in every city.

Statutory weekly cap, 2026/27

Against the cap: the cap sits £46.80 above the typical local week, so for most people here it does not reduce the calculation at all.

How busy the tribunal is

Employment tribunal receipts, South East region, April to June 2026

Single claims received
2,048 — 18.3% of the national total, 2nd of eight regions
Jurisdictional complaints
4,478, an average of 2.19 per claim
National, same quarter
11,202 claims carrying 25,122 complaints
National open caseload
100,338, against 11,232 disposals in the quarter

One caution. HMCTS publishes receipts for a region it calls South East, but it no longer publishes which hearing venue belongs to which administrative region — the GOV.UK guidance page that used to list them now redirects to the court finder, and the 2013 Regulations create no regional structure at all. So this is the region of the same geographical name, not a mapping we can show you a source for. Why we say so rather than rounding it off.

A hearing centre in a shopping centre

Maidstone has no employment tribunal venue of its own. The nearest the HMCTS court finder returns is the Ashford Tribunal Hearing Centre, on the first floor of Ashford House in the County Square Shopping Centre, about seventeen miles away. The East London Tribunal Hearing Centre and the Croydon tribunal follow, both at around twenty-eight miles.

HMCTS lists the Ashford centre for employment and social security, open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with level access, lifts to all floors and level access into the hearing rooms. Its listed address for correspondence is a benefit appeals PO box in Harlow, which tells you it is primarily a social security venue; for an employment claim, use the electronic route and the address the tribunal gives you in writing.

Where a case is actually listed will be on the notice of hearing. If the distance is a problem for a short preliminary hearing, ask early whether it can be attended by video.

HMCTS does not publish which venue sits in which administrative region; the caseload shown on this page is the South East region’s, the one of the same geographical name.

Residents earn more than the jobs pay, across the cap

The median full-time job located in Maidstone pays £704 a week; the median full-time Maidstone resident earns £774. Maidstone is one of the few places on this site where residents out-earn local jobs, and the gap is among the widest, alongside Stockport and Croydon. A good share of Maidstone residents are paid more somewhere else.

The two figures sit on either side of the statutory weekly cap of £751. A typical Maidstone job is paid below it, so the statutory redundancy formula takes the whole week; a typical Maidstone resident is paid above it, so for them the formula trims the week first.

That makes the usual rule matter more here than almost anywhere: describe your loss with the pay of the job you are leaving. Maidstone jobs pay less than the South East median; Maidstone residents earn about the same as it. Stockport has the same split.

The numbers on each side of the line

For a 45-year-old with ten complete years, statutory redundancy on the Maidstone job median is £8,450; on the resident median it is £9,012, because the cap cuts the higher week back. The difference between the two is small; the difference between what you lose and what the statute pays is the point.

For unfair dismissal, fifty-two weeks’ pay on either figure is the practical ceiling on the compensatory award until 1 January 2027, well under the fixed limit of £123,543. How the limits work.

Since 1 October 2026, a claim has six months from the effective date of termination where that date is on or after 1 October 2026. Only Acas early conciliation pauses it. How to count it.

Common questions about Maidstone

Is there an employment tribunal in Maidstone?

HMCTS lists none in the town. The nearest employment venue its court finder returns for central Maidstone is the Ashford Tribunal Hearing Centre, 1st Floor, Ashford House, County Square Shopping Centre, Ashford TN23 1YB.

Is Maidstone pay above the statutory redundancy cap?

It depends on the measure. The median full-time job located in Maidstone is paid below it; the median full-time Maidstone resident is paid above it (ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2025).

Do I need a Maidstone employment solicitor?

No. Any qualified lawyer insured for the advice and unconnected to your employer can sign off a settlement agreement — section 203(3A) and (3B) of the Employment Rights Act 1996.

How long do I have to claim?

Six months from the effective date of termination where that date is on or after 1 October 2026; three months where it was earlier. Acas early conciliation comes first.

Who pays for the advice?

Usually the employer, by a contribution named in the agreement. Acas says the employer should consider paying and does not have to.

Get your agreement checked

Six quick questions. Your details are the last step, never the first.

Step 1 of 6
Where are you up to?

A solicitor needs to know whether there is a document to read yet.

What do you want out of this?

There is no wrong answer. It decides whether a firm books you a sign-off slot or opens a negotiation, and those are different pieces of work.

When have you been asked to sign by?

The Acas Code of Practice recommends at least 10 days. If you have been given less, that is worth a solicitor knowing before anything else.

How long have you worked there?

Length of service decides your statutory notice, whether statutory redundancy pay applies, and whether ordinary unfair dismissal is available to you at all.

Is your employer paying towards the legal advice?

Employers usually contribute, because the agreement is not valid without independent advice. They are not obliged to. Knowing the figure up front stops you being put in front of a firm whose fee does not fit it.

Where should the firm reach you?

This is the only step that asks for personal details.
