The Liverpool numbers
Median full-time gross weekly pay, 2025
- Jobs located in Liverpool
- £737.20 a week · £38,430 a year
- Liverpool residents
- £726.70 a week
- United Kingdom
- £766.60 a week
- Statutory weekly cap, 2026/27
- £751, giving a maximum statutory redundancy payment of £22,530
Against the cap: the cap sits £13.80 above the typical local week, so for most people here it does not reduce the calculation at all.

How busy the tribunal is
Employment tribunal receipts, North West region, April to June 2026
- Single claims received
- 863 — 7.7% of the national total, 5th of eight regions
- Jurisdictional complaints
- 1,847, an average of 2.14 per claim
- National, same quarter
- 11,202 claims carrying 25,122 complaints
- National open caseload
- 100,338, against 11,232 disposals in the quarter
One caution. HMCTS publishes receipts for a region it calls North West, but it no longer publishes which hearing venue belongs to which administrative region — the GOV.UK guidance page that used to list them now redirects to the court finder, and the 2013 Regulations create no regional structure at all. So this is the region of the same geographical name, not a mapping we can show you a source for. Why we say so rather than rounding it off.

Two North West cities, either side of the cap
Liverpool and Manchester are close enough to share a region and far enough apart to sit on opposite sides of the statutory weekly cap. The median full-time job located in Manchester pays more than the cap; the median full-time job located in Liverpool pays a little less.
That is a small difference in pounds and a real difference in how the statute treats a typical worker. In Liverpool, the statutory redundancy formula uses a typical local week’s pay in full. In Manchester it trims it. The same formula, applied to two people doing the same job in two cities on the same railway line, discards part of one person’s wage and none of the other’s.
For a Liverpool negotiation the practical consequence is that the “the statutory figure understates me” argument is not available for a typical earner, so the case for a better settlement has to be built out of the claim rather than out of the arithmetic.
The narrowest pay gap on the site
Of the ten cities on this site, Liverpool has the smallest gap between what the jobs located in it pay and what the people who live in it earn. In Manchester the difference runs to tens of pounds a week; in Liverpool it is closer to ten.
That settles a question that is genuinely awkward elsewhere: which pay figure describes your loss. In a city where jobs pay far more than residents earn, it matters whether you commuted in. In Liverpool, it barely does — the two figures tell the same story.
It also shows up in the tax threshold. Because Liverpool pay is below the UK median, the flat £30,000 threshold covers more months of a typical local wage than it does in London, Bristol or Edinburgh — the same untaxed sum is more runway here.
What the Vernon Street listing tells you
Liverpool’s employment claims are heard at the Liverpool Civil and Family Court on Vernon Street, which HMCTS lists as a County Court and a Family Court covering thirteen areas of law. Employment is one of them.
The listing is worth a minute before any hearing. The court opens at 8:30am and closes at 4pm, telephone enquiries are answered until 5pm, and there is no parking. It lists both a witness service and witness care, a children’s waiting room, a prayer and quiet room and video facilities.
If you are looking for an employment solicitor in Liverpool to look at a settlement agreement, none of that decides where they need to be — the sign-off is done by phone and email. What matters is that they are insured for the advice and unconnected to your employer. What the statutory role requires.

Common questions about Liverpool
Where are employment tribunal hearings held in Liverpool?
At the Liverpool Civil and Family Court, 35 Vernon Street, Liverpool L2 2BX, which HMCTS lists for employment among thirteen areas of law. The court is listed as open 8:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday, with telephone enquiries answered 9am to 5pm.
Is Liverpool pay above or below the statutory redundancy cap?
Below, for the median full-time job located in Liverpool, according to the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2025. That means the statutory redundancy calculation uses a typical Liverpool week's pay in full, whereas in Manchester the same calculation trims it.
Do I need an employment solicitor in Liverpool?
Not necessarily a Liverpool one. The statutory requirement is a relevant independent adviser — a qualified lawyer, a certified trade union officer or a certified advice centre worker — who is insured for the advice and not acting for your employer. The sign-off is routinely done remotely.
Is there parking at the Liverpool court?
HMCTS lists no parking at the Vernon Street venue. It does list a lift, disabled access, video facilities, a hearing loop, and both a witness service and witness care.
Who pays for the advice on a Liverpool settlement agreement?
Usually the employer, by naming a contribution in the agreement. It is a convention rather than a right: Acas says the employer should consider paying and does not have to. Ask any firm whether they will cap their fee at the contribution.
